A view of the medina (old town) in Chefchaouen, Morocco. All buildings are painted a light blue color. The winding, narrow streets create a maze-like atmosphere inside. Definitely a beautiful sight.
Last March, for the tail end of my Easter break, I spent a weekend in Morocco. I was concerned about traveling alone, so I signed up with a group and spent two days exploring Chefchaouen (the Blue City) and Tangier. While the tour group ended up not being a wonderful experience (too many people to get an authentic experience), it gave me the opportunity to see a little of Morocco and the confidence to travel alone in the near future. Plus, I got to take some great photos. I hope you like them!
Water fountain – I was not brave enough to drink the water.
View of a street in the medina. Our tour guide is on the right. He was such a character and spoke fluent Arabic, English and Spanish. I enjoyed listening to his many stories and detailed history of the Blue City.
Fun wall art in the medina.
This flowerpot filled stairway reminded me of Cordoba, Spain.
Bags of powdered pigments for sale.
I loved the shades of blue that covered every inch of this alley.
A small plaza somewhere in the medina.
One of the bonuses of the group trip was a surprise camel ride! There was also this baby camel hanging out.
Me on the camel!
A painted entry way (of many) in Tangier, Morocco.
